The CES in Las Vegas is packed with surprises. While Nintendo itself isn’t exhibiting at the event, fans of the Japanese brand can still uncover an exciting highlight: a dummy model of Nintendo’s next handheld. This gem can be found in the Expo area of the Venetian Hotel at the booth of accessory maker Genki.

The model isn’t displayed publicly at the booth; instead, it’s used behind closed doors to showcase Genki’s accessories designed for the Switch 2 to potential clients. The company plans to release a total of eight accessories, including controllers and a docking station. With some persuasion, Netzwelt managed to catch a glimpse of the dummy—and even got to hold it.

Larger display, detachable Joy-Cons, and the introduction of the C-Button.

According to Genki, the dummy matches the exact dimensions of the Switch 2, including basic functionalities like Joy-Con detachment, which are said to work just as they will on the upcoming Nintendo console. In hand, the ‘Switch 2‘ feels noticeably larger, lending credibility to rumors about a bigger screen size. Its dimensions are roughly comparable to the Lenovo Legion Go, which we tested at IFA 2023 in Berlin. This suggests the Switch 2 could feature an 8-inch display or possibly even larger.

When detaching the Joy-Cons from the dummy, they slide off to the side rather than being pushed upwards. However, they don’t magnetically attach to the dummy, suggesting that the upcoming handheld will likely feature a mechanical locking mechanism for the controllers.

The dummy showcased at CES also features an additional button on the right Joy-Con. While unmarked on the model, it’s likely the new C-Button, which has sparked a wave of theories about its purpose across the internet.

What the dummy and Genki cannot reveal, however, is the release date of the Nintendo Switch 2. Given the increasing specificity of leaks, it might not be too far off.
